About Our Miniature
Donkey Breeding Program
We
breed only Registered Miniature Donkeys. Over the years, we have
assembled a highly select group of exceptional, proven, pedigreed
breeding jennets. Our
breeding program is focused on correct body structure including build
and balance; not color.
Our jennets consistently produce foals with
strong,
straight legs, balanced builds and excellent movement and show
potential. As a
result of our efforts, our
Miniature Donkeys are being successfully shown nationally and
internationally with
several recent NMDA Champion awards. Our Miniature
Donkeys have
been sold to Texas, Vermont, Oregon, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri,
Pennsylvania, Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, Connecticut,
England
and
France.
Generations
of Dedication & Experience
Ellinger
Farms have been continued
through the generations. Scott's
family farmed
over 2,000 acres of crops and raised and showed hogs,
cattle and sheep. Scott graduated from The Ohio State University with
a degree in Animal Science and Theresa graduated from The Ohio State
University with a BS in Business Administration. The Red Gate was
established in
1996
as a select breeding farm of Registered Miniature Donkeys.
Protecting
and
Preserving the Future of the Breed
We feel
the most important
responsibility of a Miniature Donkey breeder is to preserve, protect
and promote the future of the breed through
highly ethical breeding practices.
We maintain a small, highly select
herd and produce only several foals
per year. We offer jacks only when they have reached or are close
to breeding age AND have met our criteria on conformation, pedigree and
temperament.
In
addition, we participate through showing and sponsorships,
participating in Miniature Donkey events and
helping to educate and encourage new Miniature Donkey breeders and
owners. We are active members
of the National Miniature Donkey
Association (NMDA) and the American
Donkey and Mule Society (ADMS). We are supporters of
the NMDA
Gelding Incentive program and NMDA Research.
